DHS Immigration Raid in Los Angeles Sparks Tensions

The Department of Homeland Security launched “Operation Trojan Horse” near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, detaining 16 undocumented immigrants from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Agents arrived in a Penske moving truck, targeting an area officials say is linked to MS-13 gang activity.

Penske quickly distanced itself from the event, stating it had no knowledge of its truck being used and prohibiting the transport of people in its vehicles.

The raid has split public opinion—supporters view it as a necessary move for public safety, while immigrant rights advocates condemn it for spreading fear and disrupting communities.

The action comes despite recent court restrictions on warrantless detentions and a requirement for detainees to have legal counsel. That ruling is now headed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but DHS remains committed to aggressive enforcement.

This operation follows a large-scale sweep in June in the same area, which triggered protests—some turning violent—and tensions between city officials and federal agents. DHS has vowed such raids will continue, insisting no city or activist group can stop their mission.
