Think about it: many guests place their luggage, shoes, or even sit on the end of the bed while getting ready. The runner helps protect the clean white sheets from dirt, dust, and germs.

Housekeeping staff say it’s much easier (and cheaper) to wash or replace that small runner than to constantly replace full-sized bedding. It also serves another purpose — it helps hide minor wear and tear on the blanket or comforter, keeping the room looking crisp and new for every guest.

In luxury hotels, the runner can also act as a quick spot for room service trays or folded towels — without risking stains on the main bedspread.
